RESIDENCY APPLICATIONS: I have successfully helped artists get into various residency programs from the the International Studio & Curatorial Program (ISCP) and the Whitney Museum’s Independent Studies Program (ISP) to those more niche like the San Francisco Leather Archives and Visiting Scholars programs.

MFA PORTFOLIOS AND NARRATIVE STATEMENTS: My extensive art world experience as a professor and art critic over the last two decades has given me many professional contacts at prominent art schools including faculty members, program chairs, and accomplished graduates with artworld careers. These connections have enabled me to advise clients on how best to prepare their applications to BFA and MFA programs in various fields.

Tailoring applications to accommodate different schools is very important. I can determine what an admissions committee is looking for at a particular school, and assist in structuring the portfolio, and narrative/personal statement accordingly: How to competitively showcase a candidate’s range and versatility in the former, for example, or dynamically convey philosophy, influences, and personality in the latter.

My process involves meeting with the applicant in person, or via Whatsapp, Zoom, Google Meet, etc. to discuss and assess their needs, determine a course of action, and establish a timeline to complete each admissions application. What to include in the portfolio, in what order, and in what form (usually 12-20 works); and creating a related statement that reveals intent, passion, and capability are the final goal.
